Breakfast headlines
The Maties have been crowned FNB Varsity Cup champions for the second year running after an 11-6 victory over Pukke. Stellenbosch also won the award for playing 'Rugby that Rocks' and scrumhalf Donald Stevens won the 'Player that Rocks' award. Pukke's Willem van der Wal was named forward of the tournament and UCT's Therlow Pietersen was named back of the tournament.
In Super 14 news, the A and G Lions suffered another big blow in a tough season when 2003 SA player of the year, Ashwin Willemse, announced his immediate retirement. Meanwhile, there's speculation that Dylan des Fountain could start for the Vodacom Stormers against the Waratahs.
Springbok Sevens coach, Paul Treu, says their preparations for the Adelaide Sevens this weekend will be low-key after a narrow defeat to Fiji in the Hong Kong Sevens.
Bafana Bafana face Portugal and possibly the World player of the year in Christiano Ronaldo tonight. Kick-off in Switzer! land is at 20h45.
Fifa have ordered an investigation into a stadium crush in Abidjan in which at least 19 people were killed and a further 132 injured before a World Cup qualifier between Ivory Coast and Malawi.
Meanwhile the first phase of ticket sales for the 2010 FIFA World Cup closes today.
Cricket:
Proteas convenor of selectors, Mike Proctor, says they've not yet finalised the World T20 squad. Roelof van der Merwe and Yusuf Abdulla made good debuts against Australia and could find themselves in the squad heading to England in June. Proctor says the conditions will also be considered. He says they'll keep a close eye on the IPL ahead of selecting the squad.
